1999: Yahya Lampong leaves Umno to join Bersekutu, then rejoins Umno, all within a very short time
27 Dec 1996: 200 die in storm (Greg)
1995: Daily Express’ world exclusive: Barings Bank broker Nick Leeson fled Singapore via Sabah, even stayed at the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort. If you didn’t know, Leeson is the original Rogue Trader who was responsible for the biggest financial scandal of the 20th century – the collapse of Barings, the personal bank of The Queen, and which had funded the Napoleonic Wars.
1994: 3 weeks after being sworn in as the Chief Minister of Sabah, Tan Sri Pairin was forced to resign after many PBS Assemblymen quit the party, leaving PBS with only a few assemblymen. Some assemblymen were quoted to have said “I will never leave PBS” in the local papers, but subsequently left.

May 1990-1991: Operation Talkak: 7 Sabahans detained under the ISA over their alleged plans to secede Sabah from Malaysia, the first in May 1990 and last in May 1991, including Datuk Seri Dr. Maximus Ongkili and Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
March-May 1986: Bombs explode in KK and Tawau
September 1985: 11 people killed and several injured when 15 armed pirates landed on Lahad Datu town and fired randomly at the public before robbing a bank of RM190K.
April 1985: state elections: Incumbent Chief Minister, Datuk Harris Salleh loses to unknown (Kadoh Agundong)
