What to talk about today in Blog Ideas Monday (BIM)? How to do effective blogwalking (BW). A little bit different from our normal post for BIM but an important thing for almost all new blog. Blogwalking is a basic thing to do for any blog. It will help you gain some traffic, increase your alexa rank fast (have you check SBC alexa rank?) and gain some backlink for your blog. In today BIM, we will give you some tips on how you can do a blogwalking and get a result that you should get from blogwalking. Just remember, not every blog will give you backlink and blogwalking is not about comment exchange. Two thing that most newbies mistakenly think in their head when do their blogwalking job.
What is blogwalking?
It is an activity where you visit someone blog and leave your comment in that blog.
Why do you need blogwalking?
1. Promote your blog to other bloggers.
2. Get some backlink. Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, and inward links.
3. Get some traffic from the blog owner or their blog visitor.
Basic tools for effective blogwalking
1. Register your Google Analytics.
2. Register a gravatar for your blog email. Some blog like WordPress blogs, will use your gravatar as your avatar picture. People might not interested in a blogger without a picture in their comment, right?
3. Make sure you already add your blogspot link in your follower profile. Just go to your blog Followers widget and click “Join this site”. Change the setting and add your URL or blogspot blog and make sure your profile is visible to anyone.
4. Register your Twitter and Facebook account and add a Twitter and Facebook share button in your blog. When people give a visit back to your blog, It will be easy for them to share your post, if they want to.
5. Some of your blogwalking friends maybe will be a friends in your Facebook or Twitter account, don’t forget to register your RSS graffiti and Networkedblogs in Facebook and link it with your Twitter.
6. Make a blogroll or bloglist that related to your niche. In SBC, we register a new blog SabahBlogClub for our blog list. You can see all the latest post by blog in your blogroll. IMPORTANT: Blogroll in your blog homepage should be a list of blog that give a link back to your blog. You should put your blogwalking blogroll in other places. Make sure when people search for the blogwalking blogroll, the name you give to it can bring people to your original blogroll. Try search “SabahBlogClub“.
How can you find a blog to comment (target)?
1. Google blog search. Just type your keywords in the blog search.
2. Someone blogroll or blog list. When you land on someone homepage, you can see their blogroll or bloglist, you can start the blogwalking from here.
3. Blogger community list. You can try our SBC Members List, Gengblogger, Bloggers.com, BlogCatalog, Yahoo Mybloglog and other blogger community that you can find.
4. Blog Directories. Try type blog directories in Google, you can find the blog list easily. Some top blog directories including Blogtopsites, Blogtoplist, BlogHints etc.
5. You can also try searching them using this code:
site:.com inurl:blog “post a comment” -”comments closed” -”you must be logged in” “YOUR KEYWORD“
You can change .com with .edu, .org, .gov or any kind of site you like. Make sure your Keyword change to one keywords that related to your blog.
Effective Blogwalking.
1. Make sure you already have all the basic tools installed and ready for the blog you want to promote and if your blog is new, people have something to read (at least 10 posts in at least 150 words each post).
2. When you post a comment in blogspot blog, make sure you comment as Name/URL if the blogspot you find, if the blog have that option.
3. What we meant by Blogwalking, should be walking from one blog to another “New blog”. You should blogwalking to a blog that you have not comment before.
4. Please make sure your comment related to the post by the blogger. Short Comment like, “nice info”, “great post”, “nice photo”, “I Follow your blog” most probably will be treated as spam and people will not interested in a blogger with this kind of attitude or habit. If you don’t know what to comment, try Google on the matter that blogger is discussing. Give your opinion about the post. People will want to know you more if you have more knowledge about the discussion.
5. Not every blog should be in your blogroll! In SBC blogroll (SabahBlogClub), we have different list for different kind of blogger. We have our niche blog list, comment exchange blogger list and some bloglist that important for our blogging work. Only comment everyday for blog that related to your niche and blogger who do comment exchange. Don’t waste your time on a blog that don’t give you nothing.
6. Treat Blogwalking as a job. In SBC, we put blogwalking in our Blog job schedule. We target at least 50 new blog a day. Just make sure you don’t over doing it. 150 blogwalking a day is a maximum. Google might penalized your blog for spam blog if they detect a large amount of backlink coming to your blog in one day.
7. Don’t get frustrated when you comment in 50 blog a days but only 2-3 bloggers commenting back in your blog. Keep on doing your Blogwalking job.
Our SBC blog almost one month old but we are already get 525,668 in Alexa ranking and we got 5,373 inbound links. We hope this tips will help everyone to do blogwalking more effectively. Feel free to ask if you don’t understand.
