Notebook For Kota Marudu and Matunggong People

|

The Barisan Nasional government cares for the total needs of the people, not just physical infrastructure but also mental and financial needs, said Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Maximus Ongkili.

The Kota Marudu MP said that the distribution of the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) and 1Malaysia netbooks were clear proof of this development strategy.

Only the BN government could conceive and implement such creative assistance programme for the people. Unlike the Opposition, who are only good in talking and misleading the people,” he said when distributing iDola netbooks to the public in Kota Marudu district and Matunggong sub-district yesterday.

He distributed 941 netbooks including to 352 university students and the rest to NGOs, village heads, village committees, religious bodies and parent-teacher associations in the Kota Marudu district.

For Matunggong, he distributed 1,010 netbooks to the same target groups. This puts the total number of netbooks already distributed under the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)'s 1Malaysia Netbook Distribution Programme in Kota Marudu parliamentary constituency to more than 4,500 units.

Dr Maximus also said Kota Marudu had been fortunate to have among the highest number of recipients of the netbooks in the state, as part of the national broadband initiative aimed at increasing internet access for target groups, students and the poor.

The effort had also proved fruitful as the MCMC had found that the district now had the highest broadband penetration for rural districts in Sabah, with a 30% increase, since the distribution of the netbooks began in October last year, he added.

Dr Maximus also told the people that as the units were limited, they had to fulfil set requirements to receive the aid.

As 15,000 families in Kota Marudu would fulfil the requirement of having household income of RM3,000 and below, we have to be selective in giving out the netbooks.

As such we target NGOs, students and families with university-going children and cannot give it to every individual. For example, one unit of netbook is given to a family with a child or children studying in university, he added.
