A 74-year-old woman was hurt when a crocodile attacked her while she was crossing a small bridge over a one-metre drain at the Sondikut padi field, near Parit Jepun at Tempasuk Dua, near here.
Relating her ordeal, Luayoh Kindurus said she was about to take her first step over the bridge when the crocodile suddenly emerged from the water and bit her leg during the 5pm incident.
There was nobody around and she fought for her life by hitting the reptile on the head with her cane.
"Suddenly it let go, maybe my walking stick hit its eyes," she said.
At that time, Luayoh said she did not feel any pain and washed her blood soaked feet with water from the drainage before heading home where her family immediately sent her to the district hospital.
Her family contacted the Wildlife Department because there have been many sightings of crocodiles in the area.
