Inilah Melinda Louis, 22 tahun dari Kg Gading, Telupid yang menewaskan 41 peserta lain untuk muncul Unduk Ngadau 2012 sempena Pesta Kaamatan peringkat negeri Sabah di KDCA, Penampang pada 31 Mei 2012. Ini sejarah tersendiri kerana Telupid buat pertama kalinya menang Unduk Ngadau, mengenepikan dominasi Penampang yang mendominasi pertandingan ini sejak 1960an sehingga sekarang.

Melinda Louis berkata dia tidak menyangka memenangi Unduk Ngadau 2012 kerana peserta lain juga jelita dan amat berpengalaman dan mempunyai keistimewaan tersendiri. Melinda menghadiahkan kemenangan ini kepada daerah Telupid yang menang Unduk Ngadau peringkat negeri buat pertama kalinya.

Sebenarnya menurut Melinda, dia dipilih mewakili Telupid pada Unduk Ngadau 2008 ketika berusia 18 tahun namun tidak dapat berbuat demikian kerana melanjutkan pengajian. Nampaknya penantian 4 tahun selepas itu tidak sia sia bagi Melinda Louis, keluarganya dan seluruh daerah Telupid.

"I didn’t expect to win this title as all the finalists are very experienced and beautiful in their own ways. However, this winning is a special gift to my district, first time winning the state-level Unduk Ngadau,” said Melinda.

“I was chosen to represent Telupid in the state level in 2008 but I did not manage to stand for my district because I had to continue my study,” said the second child of six siblings who took home RM68,800 worth of prizes.
