Great wishes for Malaya Independence Day celebrated for the 55 anniversary today. The so-called Malaya got her Independence from the British Government on 31st August 1957 after being colonized more than one hundred years under The mighty British Empire. The Malaya or Tanah Melayu, have been through with two world war, the emergency (Darurat Tanah Melayu) which claimed thousands of lives and the non popular racist uprising in May 1969. Maybe you all in a question mark now, why I wrote Malaya not Malaysia? For the sake of a truly information, Malaysia was formed on 16 September 1963 and Malaysia should celebrated the so-called Independence Day on 16 September each year. Only Malaya celebrated Independence Day on 31 August each year. Did you know that Sabah North Borneo gain it independence on 31 August 1963? sixteen days before joining the Malaya, Singapore and Sarawak to form Malaysia. Well, Sabah share the same date with Malaya for Independence Day anniversary. Now the big issue... Why 31 August not 16 September?
There is no big problem if the government wants to celebrate the 31 August as the Independence Day for Malaysia but at least please don't misinterpretation the people. As a suggestion from a humble person, It is not hard to celebrate three Independence Day which comprise of Malaya, Sarawak and Sabah. The big event will be the Malaysia Day or the formation of Malaysia. Nowadays people can judge without any intervention form others and they can make their own solution without help from other people. That mean if you hide a carcass of an elephant with a banana leaves, surely you have fail to conceal the evidence and same goes with the true story of our beloved nation Malaysia. This is just an opinion from me. End result, I hope that Malaysian people can continue live in peace and harmony forever. Happy Independence Day for Malaya (55 Years) and Sabah (49 Years).
